Data2X Gender Data Press Fellowship at UN World Data Forum in Dubai 2018
Deadline: July 11, 2018
Applications are open for the Data2X Gender Data Press Fellowship. Data2X, an alliance hosted by the UN Foundation, is accepting applications for the Press Fellowship focused on gender data to be held in October 2018 alongside the second UN World Data Forum in Dubai. As part of the fellowship, journalists will receive a stipend to cover travel costs and will have access to exclusive briengs.
The UN World Data Forum will gather 1500 leaders from government, business, civil society, and academia in Dubai from October 22 to 24 to examine the signicant role of data in achieving sustainable development. Critical to this conversation is the need for good gender data – complete, unbiased data about the lives of women and girls – to bring about positive change for all people, especially those that are most vulnerable. Gender data can include labor data that considers both paid and unpaid work, data about access to financial services, and data on birth, death, and marriage registration. Women are disproportionately impacted by lack of data in each of these areas, and have the potential to benefit tremendously if gender data is collected and used.
A key component of the programme of the UN World Data Forum, which is being organised by the United Nations and hosted by the government of the United Arab Emirates, will address strengthening the use of data in journalism and improving data communication. This press fellowship will enable selected journalists to cover gender data and data for sustainable development issues through attending the UN World Data Forum in Dubai and participating in an accompanying set of curated private briefiting.
The Fellowship will provide selected journalists with a stipend to attend the second UN World Data Forum, and will allow journalists direct access to government, business, civil society, and technical experts and advocates
This fellowship is intended for any journalist who covers gender equality, data, or sustainable development issues and would nd this opportunity benecial to their reporting.
Data2X is seeking journalists with an interest in the role of data in achieving the SDGs and genderequality.
